Uploading - the process of copying a file from one computer to another computer or from one wireless device to another device using a network connection. This network connection can be hardwired or wireless.
You upload files from your computer to a Web server when you want your web site to be available to anyone connected to the Internet.
Uploading files is generally done with a File Transfer Protocol (FTP) utility.
Although uploading has been only between computers in the past, it has now taken a mobile form. A person can easily upload photographs, videos, audio, or other data to or from electronic devices. These devices do not necessarily include computers. Cell phones, cameras, and audio devices are becoming large sources of data and people are using them more and more to transfer data. GabCast is a commonly used web 2.0 tool for this type of data transfer.

What is an open source software?
Open source software - a type of software where the source code is open and can be edited by the user.
In 1998 a group of individuals decided to replace the term free software with open source software.
Software developers published their software with an open source license which made it easy to understand.
Open-source software generally allows anybody to make a new version of the software, port it to new operating systems and processor architectures, share it with others or market it.
The aim of open source is to let the product be more understandable, modifiable, reliable or simply accessible, while it is still marketable.
Blogging
Blogging - the chronological publication of one's personal thoughts and weblinks.
The term 'weblog' (Blog) was first termed by Jorn Barger on December 17 1997
Was later brought down to 'blog' by Peter Merholz who broke the term 'weblog' into 'we blog'
The first site to go up was Xanga : released in 1996
Well known by 1999.
The most common and popular form of uploading is blogging. All over the world there are millions of bloggers and great new social networking sites. Even in this part of the world, blogging has changed the way many of us live.
The term web 2.0 was first termed by O'Reilly Media in 2004.
It mainly focuses on the online collaboration and sharing among others.

This is something that is changing the whole way of our thinking, understanding and most importantly our access to information.
Being a consumer and a producer is thus changing the shape of our information.
(File Transfer Protocol) - A communication method for transferring data between computers on the Internet. FTP servers store files that can be accessed from other computers. FTP provides security services so only authorized access is allowed.
-Schools have now resorted to FTP servers to upload and distribute school work with ease and efficiency. (i.e PLC students uses studywiz)
Education has been influenced by wikis. Since wikis are easy to use and teachers can create one for their students where they can see their tasks.
Even at the International School of Dhaka wikispaces is at use for the ITGS and French class and the students can submit their work just through the wikis("consumer and prodeucer").
Besides wikispaces, the wikipedia is also a great resource of information and mostly importantly students can add more information on the wikipedia.
The only draw back is that defamers are able to add inappropriate content.
An Example if a person has no idea of who hackers are and just look up a wiki for a preliminary idea, pranksters can easily fool them by saying that hackers are good people who are no worse than saints.
This problem can be resolved by just restricting the unwanted user and simply by locking the wiki from the editing mode.
Web 2.0 in Colleges
Web 2.0 tools have a great effect on colleges. Many colleges use blogs and wikis, to get students to research and post their ideas and views. Professors encourage students, to use the internet for discussions or questions that weren't addressed in class. Some professors even record video introductions that they post on I-Tunes for the students to see. Professor videos are an example of the ways colleges attract new students', use of interactive web tools also gets many students' attention. Most colleges have their own college email systems, and now a lot of colleges use the application Blackboard. Blackboard is a little bit like Facebook, it is a social network for colleges. Student can have discussions on it, and professors could send out messages and assignments to their students. Lesson aids such as graphs, and powerpoints could also be posted there. With the spread of technologies like Blackboard, education is becoming more and more interactive. Bellow is a video about how blackboard helps students in different situations.
